Favorite Muppet #2:
Robin the Frog- Performed by Jerry Nelson, Matt Vogel (2008-Present)
Robin the Frog is Kermit’s small voiced but big hearted nephew.
He originally appeared in “Tales of Muppetland: The Frog Prince”. He was “Sir Robin the Brave” until he was changed into a frog by Taminella Ginderfall. With the help of Kermit and Princess Melora he was changed back into his princely form.
In the Muppet show he was first seen singing the A.A. Milne song “Halfway Down the Stairs” which became a hit. His first starring backstage role was with Bernadette Peters (S2E12) in which he felt like no one cared about him.
Robin was also featured in Muppet Babies as a tadpole who could only speak in babbles and therefore could only communicate with Animal.
His next starring role would be in “The Muppets Christmas Carol” as Tiny Tim, the crippled, terminal son of Bob Cratchit (Kermit the Frog).
As time passed and Jerry Nelson’s health left him unable to puppeteer, Matt Vogel who also took over Count von Count and Floyd Pepper, began to perform Robin as seen on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” where he sang “When the River Meets the Sea” with his Uncle Kermit and Jimmy.
I love Robin because he is so smal and sweet, but he is also able to be sassy, he has a quick wit and according to Matt Vogel, he said Robin is just Jerry, plain unadulterated Jerry.
